Planting, Padstow
This project began in the summer of 2011 and involved the clearance of the entire vegetation of the garden, except for some boundary hedges and a couple of mature shrubs. We then dug over all the beds, adding terracing and access where necessary.
Then in the autumn we planted an initial phase of herbaceous and woody perennials, spring flowering bulbs, shrubs and trees. Finally, in the spring of 2012 we planted a huge amount of herbaceous perennials to complete the scheme.
However, establishing the garden properly will take several more years, replacing any losses, watering during dry spells, and watching out for pests and diseases. But, once mature, the garden will settle down into a manageable rhythm and the seed bank which produces most of the weeds will start to disappear.
